Luxury Lincolnshire Property

Written by Rachel Hollis on 17th August 2011

An echo of Edwardian style mansions of the past. This month’s unique property perfectly balances sociability, security, and seclusion...

ONE OF A KIND; a saying which suitably sums up this contemporary custom-built property.

Devised with Edwardian elegance in mind, this truly unique home was designed and constructed by its present owners, Gerard and Jackie Collins, in 2007.

Arranged over five levels, this spacious and luxurious property epitomises state of the art contemporary living, all of which can be attributed to the architectural expertise of Lincolnshire based design company LK2.

Having first discovered the plot in January 2006, the purchase was very much a snap decision — Gerard and Jackie had one week to submit their sealed bid — and in a matter of weeks, their new home was secured!

“We fell in love with the plot straight away, and immediately imagined what we could do with the space!” says current owner, Gerard.

“Once we’d acquired the plot, we compiled a list of things we wanted to achieve for the project — for instance, we’d never had a swimming pool before — and the design went from there!”

Thanks to Gerard’s close affiliation with the construction industry, both he and Jackie were fortunate to have a wealth of the county’s experts on hand; “We were lucky enough to have a dedicated team of local craftsmen at our disposal to help turn bricks and mortar into our new home!”

“On reflection, it’s safe to say that we are extremely pleased with the finished product!”

In terms of structure and style, the couple had a rigid idea of what they wanted and where they wanted each room from day one. Their smart and sophisticated kitchen was no exception; “We worked very closely with LK2 Architects to get inspiration for the kitchen,” says Gerard.

Proving that Lincolnshire is more than capable of crafting a dream family kitchen, the hub of the house was ultimately forged by a fusion of local suppliers, including Peter Jackson Cabinet Makers in Horncastle.

The stunning kitchen also doubles as a living/dining space, and boasts an array of cutting-edge Miele and Sub Zero appliances. The room has a walnut and silver theme throughout, and is spacious enough to accommodate even the largest of families.

Numerous reception rooms provide ample space for the family of five, as the property boasts a sizeable drawing room, a dining room, a sitting room and billiards room. These are complemented by a striking double height entrance hall, which matches the grand and well laid out proportions of the property.

One of the most magnificent features of the house however, is its palatial leisure complex, which is located in the basement.

With a 42 ft heated swimming pool, a Tueco Mirror Hydrospa, changing rooms, wet room, gymnasium and sauna — it suits both the highly energetic, and those who revel in relaxation.

The couple’s children enjoy the house’s amenities, and who can blame them? Together with the leisure complex, the Billiards Room — which houses a full size snooker table, as well as an adequate seating area for card or board games — allows for many ways to keep the family amused.

Elsewhere, there’s another room which excites avid reader Gerard, as the residence also boasts a library — a welcome addition to the home of any bookworm!

Go up a level, and the magnificent master bedroom suite includes a fitted walnut dressing room, an en-suite bathroom, as well as a South facing roof terrace.

Showcasing the finest in contemporary carpentry, all of of the property’s wooden furnishings were crafted by Peter Jackson in Horncastle.

Additional bedrooms are arranged over the first and second floors, three of which have en-suite facilities, are all air conditioned and are luxurious, light and airy.

The house also boasts underfloor heating, smart lighting, CCTV, and HVAC Audio/Visual systems, all of which are controlled by a Control 4 home automation system.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the house’s attributes end here, but the infrastructure for a six person passenger lift has the potential to link the basement, ground and first floors — although this is still to be commissioned — and at its base lies a temperature controlled 10,000 bottle capacity wine cellar.

The garden is deliberately manageable in size as Gerard admits that he and his wife are not particularly green-fingered!

“It’s been a thoroughly enjoyable place to live,” they say, “But ultimately, home is where the heart is, and when we move on to pastures new, we know we will embrace the change and the challenge.”

And on reasons behind the move from this remarkable residence; “We’ve seen a few potential opportunities that will enable us to build another place to call home, and we can’t wait to do it all over again!”
