Established in 1948 by Fred & Ivy Gates, the current custodians of Gates Garden Centre are the fourth generation of the family. The site covers an impressive 12,500 square metres of retail space and its 360-seater caf\u00e9 is a real treat too. Covering more than 10 acres, Welland Vale near Uppingham was established in 1974 and is still family-owned with the second generation of the family, Annie Burns and husband Charlie now overseeing a centre. Welland Vale grows tens of thousands of plants on site for sale to customers. The centre also works with community groups and local schools providing, for instance, the hanging baskets that can currently be seen throughout the town as part of Uppingham in Bloom.
