Last fish pun, I promise.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 57\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The place is part of a chain &#8211; 34 restaurants in total, but we\u2019re loathed to acknowledge the fact, for fear of prejudicing the expectations the place is, we promise you, about to exceed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 57\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The chain group was established in 1978, with our local restaurant opening soon after. As such the restaurant, on the Elton Estate about 15 minutes from both Peterborough or Stamford, is better established than most independently run restaurants in the region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-101\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.29.03.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.29.03.png 240w, https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.29.03-92x65.png 92w, https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.29.03-150x108.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-101\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Loch Fyne from the outside<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 57\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Essentially, what we\u2019re saying is don\u2019t dismiss dining in the place on the basis that it\u2019s part of a chain&#8230; because we think the place is great.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 57\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>General Manager Philippa Tiffin leads a kitchen team of five people, including new Head Chef Dennis Mlinciks who was enjoying a well earned break during our visit, just prior to Valentine\u2019s Week whereupon the place is awash with Joseph Perrier Champagne, oysters, and with husbands hoping that the reputation the latter enjoys as a potent aphrodisiac has not been overstated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 57\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 57\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The restaurant is located in the estate\u2019s former dairy, which dates back to 1901 and has won a CLA architectural award for its conversion into a dining room. The timbers which once separated cattle now divide the 100 cover restaurant into intimate small areas where couples can dine in an environment that feels more intimate, less monolithic. There are larger tables for groups of friends or family and in the warmer months &#8211; unlike during our visit when the temperature was so low you could just about freeze the roe off a sturgeon &#8211; the outdoor tables and chairs allow you to enjoy al fresco seafood and a glass of cool, crisp white wine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 58\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The place is delightful, with stripped pine floors, plenty of wood, lofty ceilings and a large inglenook fireplace at the end of one restaurant area.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100\" style=\"width: 555px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-100\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.28.53.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.28.53.png 555w, https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.28.53-150x113.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inside Loch Fyne<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 59\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>For cod\u2019s sake man; get to the menu (last fish pun, the very last, I promise); those who love shellfish will be well-catered for.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 59\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Loch Fyne, before it was a restaurant group, was a farm for oysters. Founders Andrew Lane and Johnny Noble still own the original restaurant (no longer part of the group) and still supply the other restaurants with their Highland Oysters. Choose one, six or 12 with anything from tequila &amp; lime to lemon or tabasco.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>There\u2019s a salmon platter, pictured here, for one or two, with beetroot cured, gin cured or Bradan Orach salmon, served with cre\u0300me fraiche, capers etc., There\u2019s a mussel platter too, also supplied by the founders, with creamy sauces, or a tomato provenc\u0327al sauce, either as a start or a main course.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>There are seven starters, ten fish based mains and three From The Land options. In addition, there are four \u2018bespoke\u2019 dishes subtitled Fish Your Way which can be pan-fried, steamed or grilled to your preference, and alongside main courses there are eight side dishes too.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-102\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.29.12.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"319\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.29.12.png 319w, https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.29.12-150x196.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-103\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.28.44.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"735\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.28.44.png 555w, https:\/\/www.pridemagazines.co.uk\/rutland-and-stamford\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-11.28.44-150x199.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 59\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>With a set lunch menu too, offering either two or three courses for \u00a310.95 and \u00a312.95 respectively, plus a dessert menu with eight dessert or cheese options, fans of seafood or puddings won\u2019t find themselves disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>But Philippa also rather proudly recalls a number of customers that are usually timid when ordering fish who have found them- selves won over by the diverse menu and by the team\u2019s gentle recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>Bread is baked in house, shellfish is sourced from the original Loch Fyne and if you\u2019ve been impressed with what the kitchen provides, you can even take away shellfish and other products to prepare at home too.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, with a really great rural dining environment, a smashing team and a diverse menu guaranteed to satiate land lubbers or salty seadogs alike, a visit to the restaurant this month is a definite recommendation; you\u2019ll find that at Loch Fyne, the world is very much your oyster. That\u2019s the very, very, very last fish pun.
