Wedding Venues in Lincolnshire

It’s a special year for Jo & Will Nelstrop of Woodhall Spa wedding venue Abbey Farm, as they celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. In fact, the couple enjoyed their day so much, they were inspired to create their own wedding venue as a result!

Every couple should look back on their wedding day as being the happiest of their lives, and remember all of the laughter and smiles and the company of friends and family all coming together to help them celebrate. That was just the experience of Jo & Will Nelstrop who married 25 years ago.

However, their wedding also yielded the chance to make other couples’ special days become a reality, with the creation of their own wedding venue on their family farm located near Woodhall Spa.

“We love our home, it’s right in the heart of the countryside and there’s a lovely, ever-changing backdrop of the countryside just beyond our working arable farm,” says Jo. “Because we had the space available to us, we held our wedding here, but even though we knew it would be a good space to celebrate, even we were struck by what a success the day went, and how good the farm was as a wedding venue. Over the next few months we had a few enquiries from family and friends asking if the space was available for their own weddings.”

Two years passed and the wedding enquiries kept coming, so Jo and Will began hosting weddings formally, converting their oak barn and then adding a traditional renovated Lincolnshire mud and stud barn in 2017 followed by a 450-year old Granary in 2020.

A year or two later, Millie joined Jo as Abbey Farm’s Wedding and Events Manager. The two now work together to ensure that every single one of their weddings is not only a success, but has a unique look and feel too.

Seeing the venue typically results in a love at first sight moment, and whilst couples typically seek a summer wedding, some of the 20 or so couples who marry at Abbey Farm each year opt for an autumn wedding with a backdrop of rich colours and crunchy leaves underfoot, or for a winter wedding with murmurations of starlings, crimson roses and open fires roaring away.

Meadows, extensive formal gardens, croquet lawns, log burners, firepits and the lofty rustic rural architecture of the buildings themselves are ideal for creating any look and feel, at any time of year.

What’s more, Jo and Millie’s approach to making each wedding unique means that every couple benefits from their personal, relaxed advice during the wedding planning. The two have curated a comprehensive list of suppliers they have experience of working with, and provide attentive service on the day, ensuring everything runs smoothly, from wet-weather plans to a cool-head if something goes slightly off-plan.

The adjacent 13th century St Leonard’s Church is ideal for religious ceremonies, otherwise Abbey Farm has a civil license for its areas ideal for ceremonies and receptions.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate our own anniversary, and we’ve been incredibly privileged to host other couples’ weddings too, ensuring they’re as memorable and as magical as our day was,” says Jo.

“It’s a stunning venue, and we love nothing better than meeting couples here to discuss their hopes for their own day, too!”
