Christmas at Belvoir Castle
Belvoir Castle, one of England’s most treasured historic homes, will this month open its doors to welcome visitors marvel at the castle’s breathtaking decorations and create treasured family memories. Live musical performances from choirs and musicians will take place in the Castle entrance to welcome visitors throughout the season, bringing a truly festive atmosphere
This year’s theme, Decking the Halls, will transform the historic castle, which is nestled above the rolling Vale of Belvoir, into a celebration of classic Christmas grandeur and opulence. Each magnificent State Room will be uniquely styled and decorated with grandeur with a nod to different beloved Christmas carols. “Christmas is a very special time at Belvoir Castle,” says Eleanor Melville, marketing manager at Belvoir Castle.
Seeing children’s faces light up as they walk into the castle for the first time is so wonderful to see. The team have worked so hard to make sure that every little detail is perfect and there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
Families will have the opportunity to meet ‘the man in red’ himself in the ‘Search for Santa Experience’ or in ‘Santa’s Grotto’, which sold out last year. Children will be invited to follow the ‘Christmas Mouse Trail’ through the Castle, collecting clues as they go, and hang their Christmas wish on the ‘Wishing Tree.’
An impressive gingerbread Belvoir Castle will also be on display. Created by award winning cake and sugar artist, Michelle Walters, the four-foot-wide confectionary replica was first unveiled last Christmas will return with new features capturing Christmas at the Castle. New for this year, visitors will have the exclusive opportunity to experience Belvoir Castle by candlelight at a series of intimate events, featuring live music, as well as a glass of sparkling wine from the Belvoir Estate’s own vineyards.
This rare opportunity to witness the Castle at it’s most tranquil and magical time offers a memorable addition to the festive season.
After marvelling at the stunning castle and exploring the tranquil winter gardens, visitors will have the chance to enjoy a sumptuous Christmas Afternoon Tea featuring delicious festive sandwiches and sweet treats in the Castle’s unique aviary tearoom.
Belvoir Castle has a very special connection to Afternoon Tea. In the 19th century the Duchess of Bedfordshire visited Belvoir Castle and requested a light meal in the afternoon, starting the much-loved English tradition.
Eleanor added: “Many people know and love Christmas at Belvoir Castle but don’t realise that the magic continues into the Retail Village. Whether you just want to pop down to do some Christmas shopping or make a day of it and soak up the atmosphere, we can’t wait to welcome you.”
Beyond the castle, the Retail Village will host a variety of seasonal events and workshops, alongside the return of the famous reindeer.
Home to a carefully curated collection of boutique shops and restaurants, the village offers the perfect opportunity to discover thoughtful Christmas gifts and festive treats.
Throughout December, the Retail Village will be buzzing with live music and a Christmas market featuring local businesses.
